DURHAM, NC - 10/14 - North Carolina Arts Council to Host Grant Workshops for Artists



The North Carolina Arts Council will hold an information session for writers and literary translators interested in applying for its 2011-2012 Artist Fellowship grant Monday, Oct. 18, at 6-8 p.m. in the Adaron Room at the Durham Arts Council, Durham. This session is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.


Banu Valladares, literature director for the N.C. Arts Council, will talk about the grant process, offer tips on submitting competitive applications and discuss other resources available to writers through the Arts Council. Andrea Lawson, performing arts director, will be available to answer questions from composers and songwriters.



The deadline to submit applications is Monday, Nov. 1.


Writers and translators may read the guidelines and link to the online application at www.ncarts.org/fellowships. Fellowship awards for spoken-word artists and writers of fiction, poetry, literary nonfiction and literary translation as well as composers of jazz, chamber, electronic, experimental and symphonic music, songwriters, playwrights and screenwriters are offered every two years. The grants are $10,000 each. Artists must be at least 18 years of age, U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens and have been residents of N.C. for at least the year immediately prior to the application deadline to apply. Artists enrolled in a degree-granting program may not apply.
